About Random Percentage

Random Percentage produces a list of percentage values, each a whole number from 0 to 100 inclusive, one per line. You choose how many to generate and it returns that many, ready to copy. It is the kind of thing you need when a mock-up, a test fixture or a spreadsheet needs plausible percentage-looking numbers without you inventing them by hand.

The values are drawn uniformly from the whole 0–100 range, so low, high and middle results all appear with equal likelihood, and the same number can come up more than once in a run. That is the right behaviour for placeholder data; if you need every value to be distinct, sort and deduplicate the output yourself or ask for fewer than 101 and accept the occasional repeat.

One boundary is worth stating plainly: the generator uses an ordinary pseudo-random source, not a cryptographic one. The sequence looks random and is perfectly fine for sample data, but it is not designed to produce values whose next result cannot be predicted. For anything where unpredictability matters, use a source built for that purpose rather than a placeholder generator.

How to use Random Percentage

  1. 1 Set how many percentage values you want, up to one hundred.
  2. 2 Read the generated list, one percentage per line.
  3. 3 Copy the values into your test data, mock-up or spreadsheet.

Frequently asked questions

What range do the values cover?

Whole numbers from 0 to 100 inclusive. There are no negative values and nothing above one hundred percent.

Can the same value appear twice?

Yes. Each value is drawn independently, so repeats are expected, especially in a longer run. The generator does not enforce uniqueness.

Are these suitable for security or gambling?

No. The values come from a pseudo-random source, which is fine for sample data but not unpredictable enough for anything where the next result must be impossible to guess. Use a cryptographic random source for that.

How many values can I generate at once?

Up to one hundred per run. If you need more, generate several batches.

How Random Percentage behaves in detail

These are the specifics of this implementation — the exact ranges, defaults and fixed settings you are working with.

Parameter Value
Output a column of values, one per line, each written as a whole number followed by a percent sign
Range per value 0 to 100 inclusive on both ends, drawn from an integer generator rather than a float
Decimals none — every result is a whole number, so an average of many runs is not implied by the values shown
Count a number field clamped in the run function to between 1 and 100, defaulting to 10
Distribution each line is an independent draw, so repeats are expected and the same number can appear several times in one run
Sample none — the field has no default text, the form opens on 10 values

What Random Percentage does not do

Knowing the edges of a tool saves more time than another list of its features. These are the cases where it will not do what you might expect.

  • The generator is Math.random, so the sequence is neither cryptographic nor reproducible. For anything that needs an auditable draw — a lottery, a sampling check, a seeded experiment — these values cannot be re-created or proved fair after the fact.
  • There is no way to make the values sum to 100 or to spread them across a range. Each line is drawn independently, so a request for three values is just as likely to return three values near zero as one value near every band, and any target total has to be normalised by hand elsewhere.
  • The upper bound is inclusive and the values are integers, so exactly 0 and exactly 100 both occur, at roughly one chance in a hundred each. A run meant to produce strict interior percentages will occasionally return an end point that reads oddly in context.
  • Nothing is formatted beyond the percent sign. There is no decimal precision, no thousands separator, no sorting, and no way to constrain the values to a narrower band such as 60 to 80 — the only control on the page is how many lines to produce.
