About QR Code Generator
QR Code Generator turns any text or URL into a scannable QR code image. Enter the content, choose one of three sizes, and the tool renders a square code of black and white modules that a phone camera can read.
The encoding is handled by a mature QR library that selects the smallest symbol version able to hold your data — anywhere from the 21×21 grid of a short URL up to the large grids needed for longer payloads — and applies medium-level error correction. That middle setting is the common default: it lets a code still scan when part of it is smudged or partly covered, without making the pattern much denser. Output is available at 128, 256 or 512 pixels, and the size changes only how the code is rendered, not how much data it can carry.
Two practical points. The code is delivered as an image, so keep it by saving the image from your browser or by copying its underlying data URI with the copy button — there is no separate image download control. And since a QR code is only as good as its destination, scan the result with a real phone before committing it to print; long URLs produce denser codes that are harder to read from a distance.
Beyond those, the page offers no way to influence the code beyond its payload and its render size. The error-correction level is fixed at the middle setting and cannot be raised for a code that will be printed on a curved or scuffed surface, or lowered to keep the pattern sparse. There is no control over the module colour, the quiet zone, the margin, or the output format — the image is a vector rendered at one of three pixel sizes rather than a downloadable bitmap at a chosen resolution. Contact-card, Wi-Fi and calendar payloads are not offered as structured types either, so anything beyond plain text has to be assembled as its raw payload string yourself before it goes in.
How to use QR Code Generator
- 1 Type or paste the text or URL you want the code to encode.
- 2 Choose an output size — 128, 256 or 512 pixels.
- 3 Run the tool, scan the result with a phone to confirm it reads, then save the image.
Frequently asked questions
How much text can a QR code hold?
Comfortably a few hundred characters. The tool automatically selects a symbol version large enough for your input, starting from the smallest grid and growing as needed. Longer payloads make a denser pattern that is harder to scan, so short URLs work best.
What error correction level is used?
Medium, often labelled level M. It sits between the lightest and heaviest settings and is the usual default: a code can survive a modest amount of damage or obstruction without the pattern becoming much denser.
Can I add a logo or change the colors?
No. The tool produces a plain black-and-white code with no logo overlay, no color options and a fixed error-correction level. That keeps the code as reliable as possible when scanned.
How do I save the code?
It renders as an image in the output panel. Use your browser's context menu to save the image, or press the copy button to copy the underlying data URI. There is no separate download button for images.
Does it work offline?
Yes. The encoding runs entirely in your browser, so it needs no network connection, and the content you encode is never sent to a server.
Free, online, and private
Free to use
QR Code Generator is completely free. There is no account to create, no login, and no hidden charge or usage limit.
Runs online in your browser
It is a free online tool that runs entirely in your browser. Nothing to download or install — open the page and start using it right away.
Your data stays private
All processing happens locally on your device. Your input is never uploaded, stored, or tracked, so it never leaves your browser.
How QR Code Generator behaves in detail
These are the specifics of this implementation — the exact ranges, defaults and fixed settings you are working with.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Output format | inline SVG (vector, scales without blurring) |
| Error correction | level M, fixed (about 15% damage tolerance) |
| Symbol version | auto-escalates from version 1 to 40 as content grows |
| Size options | 3 choices — 128, 256 or 512 px (default 256) |
| Encoding | single dark/light module grid — no colour or logo support |

What QR Code Generator does not do
Knowing the edges of a tool saves more time than another list of its features. These are the cases where it will not do what you might expect.
- Error correction is hard-coded to level M. The higher-recovery level H (about 30%), which is what you want if the code will be printed small or partly covered, is not selectable here.
- Foreground and background colours cannot be changed, and no centre logo can be embedded. The output is always a plain black-on-white module grid, which is the most reliably scannable form.
