About Random Time

Random Time generates random times of day in twenty-four hour clock form, the kind of value you need as test data, as a sample schedule entry or as a starting point for a random event. Choose how many to produce and the tool returns one zero-padded HH:MM time per line.

The hour is drawn from zero to twenty-three and the minute from zero to fifty-nine, each zero-padded to two digits, so the output is always a clean four-character clock value with a colon. The count is clamped to a window of one to one hundred, and every field is drawn afresh, so repeated runs give different times.

The result is deliberately bare. It is a twenty-four hour time only, with no AM or PM, no seconds, no date and no time zone, and each field is drawn uniformly, so the same time can repeat within a single run. There is nothing to configure beyond the count - no start and end bounds, no distribution and no seed to pin the output down.

How to use Random Time

  1. 1 Set the Count field to how many times you want, or leave the default of ten.
  2. 2 Run the tool to read one zero-padded time per line.
  3. 3 Use the values as sample data or as random clock times.

Frequently asked questions

What format are the times in?

Twenty-four hour HH:MM with zero padding, so a time before ten o’clock reads like 07:35. The hour runs from zero to twenty-three and the minute from zero to fifty-nine.

Can two times in one run be identical?

Yes. Each hour and minute is drawn uniformly and independently, so a duplicate can appear within a single run. There is no deduplication option.

Can I constrain the times to a working day?

No. There is no start and end bound, no distribution and no weekday weighting, so the times cannot be limited to business hours or any other window.

Does it include seconds, a date or a time zone?

No. The output is a bare time of day with no calendar or zone attached, and there is no AM or PM notation.

How Random Time behaves in detail

These are the specifics of this implementation — the exact ranges, defaults and fixed settings you are working with.

Parameter Value
Input a Count field starting at ten
Output one time per line, each a zero-padded twenty-four hour clock value
Range the hour runs from zero to twenty-three and the minute from zero to fifty-nine, both zero-padded to two digits
Count clamp the requested count is clamped to the window from one to one hundred
Randomness each field is drawn afresh, so repeated runs give different times
Format the output is always HH:MM with a leading zero when a field is below ten

What Random Time does not do

Knowing the edges of a tool saves more time than another list of its features. These are the cases where it will not do what you might expect.

  • The clock is twenty-four hour only. There is no AM or PM notation, no seconds, no time zone and no date, so the result is a bare time-of-day with no calendar or zone attached.
  • Each hour and minute is drawn uniformly and independently, so the same time can repeat within a single run, and there is no deduplication option for people who need distinct times.
  • There is nothing to configure beyond the count. No start and end bounds, no distribution, no weekday weighting and no seed, so the times cannot be constrained to a working day or any other window.
