About Time Zone Converter

Time Zone Converter shifts a wall-clock time from one zone to another and returns the equivalent time in the destination zone. You pick a time in HH:mm form, choose the zone it is expressed in, choose the zone you want it shown in, and the tool works out the offset between them and applies it — wrapping around the clock so the result is always a valid time of day.

The zones offered cover the common business hubs: UTC, Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Dubai, Mumbai and Sydney. The conversion uses the real offsets from your browser's time zone database rather than a hard-coded table, so the arithmetic follows the zones as your browser currently understands them.

One limitation deserves attention because it can silently cost you an hour. The offset for each zone is taken for the present moment, not for the date you have in mind. Around daylight-saving transitions, when one zone has shifted its clocks and the other has not, the converted time can be an hour out. For dates well away from a transition, or between zones that do not observe it, the answer is reliable.

How to use Time Zone Converter

  1. 1 Enter the time you want to convert, in 24-hour HH:mm form.
  2. 2 Select the zone that time is currently expressed in.
  3. 3 Select the destination zone and read the converted time.

Frequently asked questions

Does it handle daylight saving?

Only as accurately as the current offsets allow. The tool reads each zone's present offset, so during the weeks when one zone has changed its clocks and the other has not, the result can be an hour out. For dates far from a transition it is correct.

Can the result cross into another day?

Yes, and the tool shows only the time of day, wrapping within 24 hours. If the conversion passes midnight you will see an earlier clock time, so add the day shift yourself when it matters.

Are these all the available time zones?

No — this is a curated set of common hubs rather than every zone in the world. Zones outside the list can sometimes be reached by choosing one with the same offset and converting through it.

Why does the offset differ from what I expected?

Because offsets change with daylight saving and with the browser's time zone data. If the figure looks an hour off, check whether one of the two zones is currently observing summer time.

How Time Zone Converter behaves in detail

These are the specifics of this implementation — the exact ranges, defaults and fixed settings you are working with.

Parameter Value
Inputs a time as HH:mm, plus a From zone and a To zone
Zones offered 12 fixed IANA names, identical in both lists — UTC, Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Dubai, Mumbai and Sydney
Offset lookup Intl.DateTimeFormat with the zone name and hour12 disabled, read for the current instant
Output a wall-clock time as HH:mm, wrapped into a single 0-to-1440 minute day
Defaults 12:00, Beijing → New York

What Time Zone Converter does not do

Knowing the edges of a tool saves more time than another list of its features. These are the cases where it will not do what you might expect.

  • Offsets are resolved for right now rather than for the date you have in mind. There is no date field, so a July meeting converted while the tool is being used in January takes the January offsets, and London against New York comes out an hour wrong because daylight saving is not modelled.
  • The zone list is hard-coded at twelve entries. Africa, Latin America and most of Asia are missing, and single cities stand in for whole countries, so the United States and Australia are each represented once. A name outside the list is not an error — the offset falls back to 0, silently meaning UTC.
  • The answer is a time of day with the date removed. Because the result is wrapped into a 0-to-1440 range, 23:00 in Sydney converted to New York prints an early-morning time with nothing to indicate that it belongs to the previous day.
