About Extract Hashtags
Extract Hashtags pulls every hashtag out of a piece of text and lists them one per line, the quick way to gather the tags from a social post, a campaign brief or a block of notes. Paste the text and the tool returns each hashtag with its hash sign kept.
A hashtag is matched as a hash followed by word characters - letters, digits and underscores - so a sentence with the tags weather, sunny and happy comes back as three lines, each starting with the hash sign. Underscores inside a tag are preserved, and text with no hashtag returns an empty result.
Two limits are worth knowing. The word pattern is ASCII only, so a hashtag whose content contains accented letters, Chinese characters or emoji stops matching at the first non-ASCII character and comes out truncated. And there is no processing beyond extraction - tags are not deduplicated, sorted or counted, and a hash inside a larger token is treated as a tag too.
How to use Extract Hashtags
- 1 Type or paste the text you want to scan for hashtags.
- 2 Read the result as it updates - one hashtag per line, hash sign kept.
- 3 Copy the tags you need; they are not deduplicated or sorted.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as a hashtag?
A hash sign followed by letters, digits or underscores. The tag keeps its hash sign in the output, and underscores inside the tag are preserved.
Why did my non-English hashtag come out truncated?
The word pattern is ASCII only, so a tag containing accented letters, Chinese characters or emoji stops matching at the first non-ASCII character and is returned only up to that point.
Are the tags deduplicated or sorted?
No. They are returned in the order they appear, with no deduplication, sorting or counting. A repeated tag appears once per occurrence.
What if there are no hashtags?
The result is empty. There is no placeholder and no error - text without a matching tag simply produces nothing.

How Extract Hashtags behaves in detail
These are the specifics of this implementation — the exact ranges, defaults and fixed settings you are working with.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Input | one text panel, recalculated live on every keystroke; the sample reads a sentence with three hashtags |
| Output | every hashtag on its own line, with the hash sign kept |
| Pattern | a hash followed by word characters - letters, digits and underscores |
| Default | the sample yields the three tags weather, sunny and happy on three lines |
| No matches | text without a hashtag returns an empty result |
| Kept symbols | the leading hash and any underscores inside the tag are preserved in the output |

What Extract Hashtags does not do
Knowing the edges of a tool saves more time than another list of its features. These are the cases where it will not do what you might expect.
- The word pattern is ASCII only. A hashtag whose content contains accented letters, Chinese characters or emoji stops matching at the first non-ASCII character, so such tags come out truncated rather than whole.
- There is no processing beyond extraction. Tags are not deduplicated, not sorted, not counted and not stripped of their hash sign, and the order is whatever the text had.
- The match does not require a word boundary, so a hash inside a larger token is treated as a tag - text like a#b yields the tag #b, and there is no way to restrict matching to the start of a word.
